Amitabh Bachchan to become Maharashtra’s ‘Tiger Ambassador’

Amitabh Bachan has agreed to become the state ambassador for the ‘Save the Tiger’ campaign and promote tiger tourism. The actor sent a formal letter to the state government accepting its proposal and invite, Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.

Maharashtra, with six tiger reserves, has 190 tigers as per the 2014 census. The state has recorded a steady rise in tiger population from 103 in 2006 to 169 in 2010 and 190 in 2014, as reported in the Tiger Estimation conducted every four years. The letter also spelt out the initiatives the state government had taken to protect tigers and nab inter-state poaching gangs. Maharashtra is going to be the first state that will have special pass-throughs on canals for animals, he added. The state board has approved the extra funds for the water resources department to enable construction of the facilities for the animals.

Tiger Reserves in Maharashtra :
Tadoba-Andhari, Bor,Sahyadri, Melghat, Pench, Nagzira.. The five existing tiger reserves in vidharbha are Tadoba-Andhari, Melghat, Pench, Sahyadri and Nagzira.
