UNP-Led Coalition Wins Lankan Elections


The United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG) led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has won the Sri Lankan parliamentary elections. United National Party (UNP) led United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG) coalition with 106 seats emerged as the winner in the 2015 Parliamentary elections of Sri Lanka. But it failed to secure absolute majority in the Parliament of 225 members.

The final tally of the Parliamentary elections held on 17 August 2015 was announced by Sri Lanka’s Election Department. The elections were held ten months ahead of schedule to elect 225 members to Sri Lanka's 15th Parliament.

Tamil National Alliance with 16 seats and the JVP with 6 emerged as the next largest parties in the new parliament which will start functioning from the 1 September 2015.
