Pankaj Saran appointed Indian ambassador to Russia
Pankaj Saran, the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, has been appointed as the next Ambassador to Russia. Saran, An Indian Foreign Service officer of 1982 batch, is expected to take up his assignment shortly.
Pankaj Saran will replace P.S. Raghavan, who presented his credentials as Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation, to Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 16, 2014. Saran oversaw the implementation of the landmark Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh. The instruments of ratification for implementing of the LBA 1974 and its Protocol of 2011 were inked between Indial and Bangladesh during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh on June 6-7.As part of the implementation, 51 erstwhile enclaves from India and 111 erstwhile enclaves from Bangladesh were transferred with effect from the midnight of July 31, 2015.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla, an IFS of 1984 batch, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He is the Indian envoy in Thailand.
