ICC suspends West Indies spinner Sunil Narine for illegal bowling action
The ICC suspended West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect. The ICC took a decision after an independent assessment found his bowling action to be illegal.
Narine's bowling action was reported after the third ODI match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele earlier this month. Thereafter, a test was performed on November 17 at the ICC's accredited testing centre in Loughborough University. The assessment revealed that all variations of his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.
In accordance with the regulations, Narine's international suspension will also be recognised and enforced by all National Cricket Federations within domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction. The player can apply for a re-assessment after modifying his bowling action in accordance with the Regulations for the Review of Bowlers Reported with Suspected Illegal Bowling Actions.
