Justice T S Thakur

Justice T S Thakur will take over as the next Chief Justice of India on 3 dec 2015. He will be administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Justice Thakur will succeed Chief Justice HL Dattu who demitted office. He will have a tenure of over a year. Justice Thakur has been associated with a host of significant judgments. He led the bench which had delivered the verdict on reforming the BCCI following the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal.

About Justice Tirath Singh Thakur
• Born on 4 January 1952, Justice Thakur enrolled as a Pleader in October 1972. He was designated as a senior advocate in 1990.
• In February 1994, he was appointed as an additional judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and was transferred as a judge of the Karnataka High Court in March 1994.
• He was appointed as a permanent judge in September 1995 and transferred to the Delhi High Court in July 2004.
• He was appointed as acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court in April 2008 and in August 2008, he took over as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
• He was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court on 17 November 2009.
