Ahmad Javed is India’s ambassador to Saudi
The Ministry of External Affairs announced Police Commissioner Ahmad Javed's appointment as India's ambassador to the kingdom. The only other Maharashtra-cadre police officer to have had the privilege of an ambassadorial stint was Julio Ribeiro, who was India's ambassador to Romania from 1989 to 1993. With the presence of a large number of Indian immigrants in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh is one of India's busiest foreign missions. The Indian ambassador's post in Saudi Arabia fell vacant following the exit of Hamid Ali Rao, who occupied the office from September 2011 to April 2015. Javed, a 1980-batch IPS officer, would be the 20th Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
The state government is yet to decide on Javed's replacement as police commissioner. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wants the 1981-batch IPS officer, DD Padalgikar, for the top job but sources said that Padalgikar is reluctant to accept as he will be appointed director of the Intelligence Bureau in a few months' time.
