Japan's MSDF to conduct joint exercise with US Navy in South China Sea
Japan's Maritime Self-Defence Force (MSDF) on October 29, 2015 said that it is conducting a joint exercise with the US Navy in the South China Sea.
The MSDF said the drill is unrelated to the US Navy's recent navigation of an Aegis destroyer within 12 nautical miles of an artificial island built by China in disputed waters.
The drill started yesterday will last for several days.
The United States and China are at loggerheads over China's campaign to bolster its sovereignty claims in the South China Sea.
